Hello High Grove Families!
I often remind you to dress your child appropriately for the weather. At High Grove, we use the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Child Care Weather Watch Chart.
Clicking on the link above, you can read in detail how we decide if we will spend time outdoors.
Here is a quick simple guide:
Condition GREEN – Children may play outdoors and be comfortable. We watch for signs of children becoming uncomfortable while playing. We use precautions making sure the children are hydrated. We expect you to use precautions regarding clothing and sunscreen. Some classes may even play when it is sprinkling during warmer weather conditions.
Condition YELLOW – We use caution and closely observe the children for signs of being too hot or cold while outdoors. We ask that you make sure your child is dressed appropriately and wearing sunscreen during YELLOW conditions. We also shorten the length of outdoor time.
Condition RED – Based on our knowledge of our students, most often we will not play outdoors due to the health risk. Occasionally and if the weather conditions are appropriate, a class may take a two to three minute walk around the playground to get some fresh air; and quickly return to the air conditioned building.
Please regularly check the weather conditions and dress your child appropriately for both indoor and outdoor play. Properly fitting TENNIS SHOES are best for children at school for safe play and physical development. The sole and tread pattern on tennis shoes are specifically designed to provide traction which is essential for quick lateral movements and sudden stops. The flat sole also helps to keep the feet stable and prevents the ankle from rolling.
