Hello High Grove Families!
I often remind you to dress your child appropriately for the weather. At High Grove, we use the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Child Care Weather Watch Chart. Clicking on the link above, you can read in detail how we decide if we will spend time outdoors. Here is a quick simple guide: Condition GREEN – Children may play outdoors and be comfortable. We watch for signs of children becoming uncomfortable while playing. We use precautions making sure the children are hydrated. We expect you to use precautions regarding clothing and sunscreen. Some classes may even play when it is sprinkling during warmer weather conditions. Condition YELLOW – We use caution and closely observe the children for signs of being too hot or cold while outdoors. We ask that you make sure your child is dressed appropriately and wearing sunscreen during YELLOW conditions. We also shorten the length of outdoor time. Condition RED – Based on our knowledge of our students, most often we will not play outdoors due to the health risk. Occasionally and if the weather conditions are appropriate, a class may take a two to three minute walk around the playground to get some fresh air; and quickly return to the air conditioned building. Please regularly check the weather conditions and dress your child appropriately for both indoor and outdoor play. Properly fitting TENNIS SHOES are best for children at school for safe play and physical development. The sole and tread pattern on tennis shoes are specifically designed to provide traction which is essential for quick lateral movements and sudden stops. The flat sole also helps to keep the feet stable and prevents the ankle from rolling. Laura Elliott-Goudeau, Family Advocate National Institutes of Health (.gov) A new food recall which might impact our children and families:
Almost 30,000 pounds of frozen chicken patty products have been recalled by Tyson Foods, Inc., reportedly after consumer complaints of foreign matter pieces in the product. The firm reported the situation to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Information Service (FSIS) and recalled the 29 oz. frozen plastic bag packages containing "Tyson FULLY COOKED FUN NUGGETS BREADED SHAPED CHICKEN PATTIES," with a Best if Used By date of SEP 04, 2024. Specific lot codes should be checked in the following FSIS announcement: https://www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls-alerts/tyson-foods-inc--recalls-chicken-patty-product-due-possible-foreign-matter One reportedly minor oral health injury has been noted in the announcement, and the FSIS is concerned that the product may be present in consumers' freezers at this time. The FSIS also advises anyone concerned about an injury or illness from consuming the nuggets to contact their healthcare provider. Consumers who have purchased the product obviously should not consume it and should either discard it or return it to place of purchase. Additional valuable information is available in the FSIS announcement already noted above. Take best care of you, as you roll into an Amazing Autumn! Sold in a variety of different prints and fabrics, the recall applies to products bought on or after June 23, 2022.
According to the CPSC, the recalled loungers fail to meet the safety requirements of CPSC’s Infant Sleep Products Rule, creating an unsafe sleeping environment for infants and posing a suffocation risk and fall and entrapment hazards to infants. While reportedly no incidents or injuries have been reported, the CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled baby loungers and contact Yoocaa Direct for instructions on how to receive a full refund and dispose of the product properly.
